 Description

Bulk data edits in MARCcat, not via Data Import, e.g. for headings in Bib records

Note that a user can edit a heading from the authority record, but not from the bib record; when changed on the authority record, will update on all the associated bibs. May be some workflows from LibriSuite that could be helpful here.

@Annalisa Here’s the optimal system I would like for bulk changes. These may seem like separate things, but they all fit together to allow detailed control of the changes.

Ability to create a group of any kind of records based on searching any combination of fixed or variable fields in the record and/or attached records, including search on system fields like created date, etc.
Ability to display that group according to any one field, so that they collapse into subgroups of records with the same field content, with a count of how many records are in each subgroup.
Ability to expand each collapsed subgroup individually and see the titles that all have that same field content.
Ability to manually remove records from the whole group, individually or in groups.
From that display I want to be able to open an individual record and edit it, and to open multiple records and compare them.
From that display I want to be able to manually select groups of records for bulk changes. I want to be able to change any field in the selected group regardless of whether it was the search field or sorted on field.
For the changes I want to be able to do find and replace, with regular expressions. I want to be able to change a variable field or fixed field. I want to be able to delete a whole field based on data within the field, defined with regular expressions. I want to be able to insert an entirely new field. I want it to be able to find duplicate fields and delete them. I want it to be able to make a copy of a field and make changes to the copy or not. I want to be able to make more than one change operation in the same action.

I also want a preview of all changes about to happen. It should show each pair of old fields and new so they are easy to compare. It should be possible to exclude records for change from the preview screen.
In the preview screen the change could be highlighted.

Hi Lloyd Chittenden,
thanks for your suggestions. It seems very interesting and nice: they are lot of things. At the moment we're thinking to approach these requirements in a easiest and basic way, because we still have a lot of MARCcat functions to develop and at the same time we're trying to release MARCcat in FOLIO environment (that it's not easy task). So, during the next meeting we'll try to show something that will allow you to make some bulk changes and also we can discuss on some of your use cases in order to consider their possible inclusion. Many thanks.

In general, the work around to export and use external tools is not a sustainable set of practices. Also, has anyone actually tested the effectiveness in a current version of FOLIO? Can we actually use this work around in 2020?

As of Jan 2021, development of MARCcat has ceased. Will incorporate some features into quickMARC.
