 Description

From David Bortoff Holly via email on 2/25/2019: "Here at Chicago, we’ve been discussing how much we’d like to offer patrons the option of paying fines online again. This reminded me to check in with you as the FOLIO PO for fines and fees to make sure this is being considered for FOLIO as well. I don’t know the marketplace that well, but I assume at a minimum there are APIs we should be making sure are in place so that FOLIO can allow for online payments."

Holly's response via email on 3/8/2019: "This issue came up early on. I know Cornell was interested as well. As I remember it we agreed that we can’t incorporate an on-line payment system in FOLIO (given there are many options available and everyone will have their preference) put that we would “facilitate” this. In FOLIO language it would mean the creation of an API. We could talk about this at a SIG meeting or I could just create a JIRA issue for this feature. Is this something Chicago would need at go-live, within the first quarter, or within the first year?"

David's response via email on 3/10/2019: "No worries at all. I think creating a Jira makes sense, though if we wanted to ask others in the SIG we could. Chicago would rank this as within the first year."

Vendors with whom the University of Chicago had contracts with as of last year for accepting online payments: Express Gateyway, Payflow Pro, and CASHNet.

This is likely to require the development of an edge module that would facilitate connections to mod-feesfines, but I think that until we have a specific use case with an institution and a vendor, it would be difficult to spec out the requirements for that edge module. As such, with Holly's retirement, I would advocate for closing this feature. It could be recreated when there is a library ready to work on making this happen.
