 Description

Purpose: When established linking between an Holdings record in Inventory to a holdings source record in MARC Format for Holdings (MFHD) record in the Source Record Storage (SRS), then edit of given meta elements in the Holdings record need to be blocked, when data is maintained as a MFHD record in quickMARC.

In the holdings record there will be an element Metadata source. This element is auto-populated with the specific source of the record in the SRS, if applicable. For records with underlying MARC Holdings in SRS, source will be MARC

Notes:

  • Define the linking between the MFHD formatted record, which is the original (rich) native metadata format stored in the SRS and the Holdings record in Inventory and the MARC holdings in quickMARC (store the various UUIDs in 999 field)
  • Source = MARC, ,plus the 999 field associating the various UUIDs will establish control over the editing of fields in the Inventory Instance

Dependencies:

  1. Establish storage of MFHD formatted records in SRS
  2. Implement data flow Inventory <> SRS <> quickMARC

Discussed with Thunderjet yesterday. Not enough capacity for this in Q1 2020. Added at-risk label and moved to Q2 2020

This is still open, is there a corresponding Jira for this functionality for quickMARC, or does it fall under 'won't do' because not needed in the new-ish model? Like UXPROD-1596 Closed ?

Hi Jacquie Samples This is still needed. For libraries who will maintain MARC holdings, the Inventory holdings record will have an SRS MARC holdings record underneath. That MARC holdings will control most of the Inventory holdings record fields - exactly parallel to how the SRS MARC Bib controls most of the Instance's fields. The MARC Holdings will be editable via quickMARC or outside of FOLIO, same as MARC Bibs

Hi Ann-Marie Breaux , I agree that the functionality is needed, but wasn't sure if new Jiras were being created since the demise of MARCcat.  Thanks for your clarification here and on UXPROD-1596 Closed

Thanks Jacquie Samples and Ann-Marie Breaux. Updating the description to better explain quickMARC need.

Hi Jacquie Samples No, since these were the interactions between SRS and Inventory, they're still valid. I did close all of the ones related to synchronizing MARCcat and SRS. Once really good thing about the quickMARC flow is that it accesses the MARC records in SRS directly, instead of having a separate copy of them, like MARCcat was going to have. That means fewer versions of the bib data that we have to keep synchronized across the apps.

Thanks to you both, Khalilah Gambrell  and Ann-Marie Breaux!  I appreciate the clarification, old Jira closings, and the updates which will make it easier for us to determine how to distribute 'points' in the upcoming capacity planning process.
