 Description

Currently Folio does not support a Folio user storing his/her preferences for how to use the platform. This feature would support the following

  • Build backend capabilities to store user preferences
  • Build frontend capabilities to allow a user to configure basic user preferences - for example
    • Default app to display
    • Default panes to view
    • Multi-column list : set default columns to display and default sort per app
    • Default search/filter preferences within each app

In addition, a go-live requirement for us would be a possibility to store "default values" for any form (e.g. new user, new order, new holding, new item etc.) as individual user preference.

Mike Taylor feedback in 2018

"We now have several requirements that need user-specific preferences to be stored and retrieved. These include:

  • Saved order of application icons ( STCOR-110 Closed )
  • User-specific locales: for Spanish-speaking students in a Texas university
  • User-specific key-bindings
  • Per-user plug preferences: one user wants an OPAC-like view of items, another wants a MARC-like view.
  • Profile pictures (part of UIU-324 Closed )

We need to figure out the best approach to storing and retrieving such information."

Michigan State has the additional example of a frontend user preference configuration to allow customized order / arrangement of app icons in the top ribbon and overflow dropdown. That is, a customization at the individual user level, rather than whole tenant.
