 Description

Current situation or problem:
Some users will need information about how many times and item circulated or was used in-house, but will not have the ability to use the LDP. For these users, the number of times an item was circulated or used in-house would be helpful to display on the item record.

In scope

  • Count number of loans and in-house uses and display on item record, broken out by effective location

Out of scope

  • user will not be able to filter by date (or anything else) from this screen

Use case(s)

  • convenient to have that information for weeding or when deciding whether or not to replace a lost item

Hi Cate Boerema Why does in-house use block circ statistics on the item record? Chalmers needs circ on the item record before in-house use. They deprioritized in-house, but it if's blocking circ stats on item records for some reason, it probably needs to have its priority increased.

Ann-Marie Breaux that sounds like a question for Emma Boettcher

Comment by Emma Boettcher [ 08/May/19 ]

Ann-Marie Breaux I blocked it because in-house use is half of the circ statistics that would show, but it would also be possible to split it a feature for showing loans made on an item, and a feature for showing in-house uses of an item.

Comment by Michal Kuklis [ 17/May/19 ]

When estimating the front end for this I assumed most of the work will be done on the server and the front end will just display these statistics. Please let me know if that's not true.

Comment by Marie Widigson [ 14/Oct/19 ]

Hi Ann-Marie Breaux & Emma Boettcher Would it be possible to split this issue as mentioned above? In-house is not important for us, while at a glance seeing the circulation statistics for other items are.

HI Marie Widigson That's definitely a question for Emma Boettcher so I'll leave it for her to answer. Thanks, A-M

Is this issue still blocked? Emma Boettcher

Comment by Emma Boettcher [ 27/Mar/20 ]

Siska No. I'll unblock it and write up the stories.

Has there been any development on this issue since unblocking it Emma Boettcher? It's something our staff continues to ask about frequently.

Cheryl Malmborg Are you the PO for this now?

Comment by Cheryl Malmborg [ 19/Aug/21 ]

patty.wanninger I guess I am.

Cheryl Malmborg I think this ranks pretty high and I'd like to see it get assigned. Chalmers has wanted it from the beginning but it's ranked pretty high and new implementers like Caltech and Skidmore are looking for this functionality. (so without any straw, I would like a few hundred square yards of brick, please. Thanks in advance!)

Echoing Patty that I get asked about this feature by nearly every library I work with - two this week, in fact! Any chance this feature will see life in Lotus or Morning Glory?

Comment by patty.wanninger [ 08/Dec/21 ]

Khalilah Gambrell is this story UI only?

Note Marc Johnson's comment from May 2020
Needs decisions about how and where to store this information (e.g. in circulation or inventory) and how to make it available in a performant manner.

I think this is not just UI.

Comment by Erin Nettifee [ 09/Dec/21 ]

Yah, this wouldn't be. There might be the ability to repurpose some of the data being tracked in loan-history but it will still require backend work.

Comment by Marie Widigson [ 12/Jan/22 ]

Hi, We came to talk about this (again) at Chalmers.

Suggestion for future development
As circ stats disappears when an item is weeded, we think it would be very nice to have total loans for all items calculated also at instance level.
To at a glance see this would be interesting when

  • Deciding if a new copy might be needed
  • Deciding ho many copies to purchase of a new edition
  • Weeding

Also, some indication when the loans happened would be interesting. From previous ILS, as I remember it, we also had the opportunity to see circulation statistics (stating renewals separately) for
Year to date, Last year, and all previous years. This may be a later addition to this feature as well?
