 Description

Purpose: Establish linking between an Instance record in Inventory to a source record in the Generic bib storage.
The blob record in the Generic bib storage can be e.g.
a) imported into the system and stored in the Generic bib Storage and converted to FOLIO format and stored as a instance record in Inventory, or
b) coming as an external source record from e.g. a Knowledge Base (e.g. EBSCO KB), and stored in the Generic Bib Storage and converted to FOLIO Inventory format.

In the instance record the element Metadata source is implemented (in alpha). This element is auto-populated with source of the Generic bib storage record and its format, if applicable (e.g. "Local: MARC" or "EPKB")

Outstanding issue:
Define the linking between the source record, which is the original (rich) native metadata format stored in the Generic Bib Storage and the instance record in Inventory.

IS this the same as 152 & 153?

Hkaplanian, this is different from:
UXPROD-152 Draft
UXPROD-153 Closed

Charlotte Whitt is "an existing metadata record" a record within Inventory and the rich source something outside of FOLIO or some internal bibliographic storage?

Would you mind sharing one or two examples?

Hi Theodor Tolstoy (One-Group.se). Since Charlotte Whitt is on vacation this week, I am monitoring here features for questions.

EDIT: I was just looking at UXPROD-131 Closed (Implement link to original MARC21 format data records in Cataloging App) and trying to understand what the difference was between that feature and this one. On first blush, they appeared (to me, anyway) to be duplicates. But I think the key to the distinction is that this feature is about linking existing records. So, let me try this explanation again.

Unlike folio Instance records that are created from imported MARC records, Instance records that are created by hand in folio (e.g. quick records), do not have an associated rich "source record". I believe this feature is about enabling users to associate these kinds of Instance records to a rich source record when one is imported/found.

Thank you for clarifying Cate Boerema

Thanks again Cate Boerema, I just wondered:
In a scenario where we do not keep any MARC records in FOLIO, would we be able to have the link pointing to my Union catalog?

Comment by Cate Boerema (Inactive) [ 19/Jun/18 ]

Oh, yes, I believe there are plans to support external links in the Instance records. That may be part of what Charlotte Whitt had in mind with UXPROD-153 Closed .

Ok, good, thank you

Hi Charlotte Whitt. It looks like, aside from UIIN-204 Closed which is open, the linked stories in this feature are closed (this is great!). Do you expect UIIN-204 Closed will be completed this sprint?

Comment by Charlotte Whitt [ 04/Sep/18 ]

Hi Cate Boerema - yes I expect UIIN-204 Closed to be completed to for Q3 2018. Let me dig up some comments on Slack, which I have received from Wayne Schneider. I'll follow up this.

Hi Charlotte Whitt, can you please clean up this feature? Let's move all these open and analysis complete stories into another feature (all the stories linked to this one should be closed by this point, as the release is on Friday). Once you've moved the open stories, we can then close this feature. Thanks!

Hi Cate Boerema - I'm working on it. Please see my comments this morning in UIIN-204 Closed .
