 Description

Purpose: Userfeedback and UAT test (User app and Vendor) indicates that the users find it cumbersome to navigate filters.

Some of the problems we have identified:

  • Extremely long filters - e.g. which in worst case can mean long scroll through several pages when having:
    • all 193 countries in an alphabetic sorted Country list (Vendor app)
    • all language in alphabetic order (Inventory)
    • all Resource types - 24 rda content terms and locally defined terms (Inventory)
    • all Formats - rda carrier terms and locally defined terms (Inventory)
    • all Material types - 137 terms and locally defined terms (Inventory)

Need UX guideline for

  1. a quick way to clear filters from any given filter set
  2. how to see recent or most used filters at top. Alphabetical is usable but not ideal.
    • list the first 3-5 terms - the most used, or defined as the 5 primary used ones in Settings, or other solutions - with the possibility to show more (e.g. ...)
  3. be able to expand the different filter list in steps e.g. 10 more / 50 more / view all

From Chicago: Assuming that filters are referring to the use of filters to limit a search at the outset rather than using the filters (as facets) to restrict an existing result set post-search.

Charlotte Whitt, I wonder if we can mark this feature done. We now have a new component for long filters implemented, plus there's a way to clear each filter individually. The only remaining issue that isn't addressed is the ability to see most used filters at the top of the list as opposed to viewing options alphabetically. If we want to keep this feature open for that, we should probably update the description and title of this UXPROD.
