 Description

The feature makes available the ability to search data in external sources, using different protocols and criterias. The external sources can be previously defined and set in a configuration panel. The external search is useful above all in copy cataloguing workflow.

After MARCcat is released, consider this as part of next phase. To be able to find a record in external database and download into MARCcat for creation or editing

carmentrazza Would OCLC be included as one of these external databases?

Comment by Tom Wilson [ 26/Apr/19 ]

We need a clarification on what "external" sources this refers to. Ranking on this is due by April 30 because of its age.

Hi Carmen. I noticed that the Fix Version/s for this feature is "Q3 2018", which has already passed. Would you mind updating Fix Version/s to the new release date? Thanks!

So, where are we with this issue? What does external mean in this case?

Hi Patty, I believe it might be searching the authority files, but I am not sure. As for OCLC, we want to be able to push from Connexion into the FOLIO space, rather than searching OCLC from within FOLIO. Although others may want to search OCLC from within FOLIO. Hope this helps.

Follow the description of this feature in MARCcat: the cataloger will be able to make search on different external sources. To interrogate these external sources MARCcat will use the Z39.50 protocol or invokes some APIs exposed by the related sources, like VIAF. From the search result list, he will be able to select the desired record and import it in the db. For this feature the UI prototype still missing.
The configuration of these external sources depends on library request and availability of the Z39.50 connection/APIs..

As of Jan 2021, development of MARCcat has ceased. Will incorporate some features into quickMARC.
