Kelly Drake It is now possible to create new courses.

What you can't do (and now will not until the new year):

  • Add a new cross-listed course to an existing listing
  • Maintain instructors
  • Maintain reserves

Mike Taylor - Excellent!

Regarding the three things we cannot yet do (see my previous comment):

  • I added a new and separate issue for the ability to adda new cross-listed course to a listing ( UICR-13 Closed ).
  • I added a second new issue for maintaining instructors ( UICR-14 Closed ).
  • The ability to maintain reserves is covered by the existing issues UICR-7 Closed (add item) and UICR-10 Closed (edit item).

I will link the present issue to each of those four issues. Otherwise, I consider this core course-creation issue done, and will place it in review.

Mike Taylor I can create a Course ! But once saved only a "ghost" course record appears in the Course list.

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 03/Jan/20 ]

Hmm. Same happens for me on simmons-cr — but it works on the dev system. I'll look into this tomorrow.

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 03/Jan/20 ]

Ah, I see what's happening. The record creation (and cloning) is working — what you're seeing is merely a display problem. The first 10 course records are fetched, but no more, so the remainder are shown as blank rows.

I'll look into it on Monday (not tomorrow!), but in the mean time you can see your new records by sorting the search results appropriately to make them come out near the top.

2020-01-07 SMEs approved create and edit basic course record functionality!

But...regarding the screen size for creating and editing a course ( and all other create and edit functions). The ideal preference is for the column sizes to be adjustable on the fly by the user. Apparently this is in development but we weren't sure where. If it's a long way off - say after the CR app is released then we request full create and edit screens.

I’ll ask the Stripes team about resizeable panes.

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 07/Jan/20 ]

Resizeable panes has been filed since 2016 as STCOM-657 Closed , but there has been very little activity on it — even though it has since been re-filed (at least) twice as UIU-990 Closed and UICAT-14 Closed . It feels to me that there is groundswell of desire for this feature, but I guess no one potential consumer of it has been noisy enough yet to raise it above the cap-planning threshhold.

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 07/Jan/20 ]

Further discussion with John Coburn confirms that we should not expect resizeable panes any time soon; so we will proceed to use full-page create/edit forms instead.

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 09/Jan/20 ]

The switch to full-screen display is described separately in UICR-16 Closed , so I think this one can be closed — everything else is done. Kelly Drake I will put this issue into In Review, and you can close it if you agree.

Kelly Drake Can we close this?

Comment by Mike Taylor [ 27/Jan/20 ]

Kelly Drake I would like to close this if you're happy that it's passed QA.

Comment by Kelly Drake [ 27/Jan/20 ]

Yay!! Please do close this. And thank you.

Excellent!
