I've reached out on Slack for advice on how to troubleshoot this further.

julie.bickle, should this be assigned to Vega?

On 25th Jan, I emailed Sobha Duvvuri about this, who said "Let me open a ticket for my team to investigate further".

Update Friday 4 Feb 2022 from Sobha: As a first step, we(EBSCO) think its a problem because the bugfest database snapshot was shared with community and that the snapshot was used to spin up several environments all of which were sending out emails because SMTP was not turned off. Now, they have turned off SMTP on all envs. Could you please check and let us know if emails spamming inboxes is still a problem?

I have not receive any further unwanted emails.
