Giving this one a bump. The missing item-info call interferes with meescan (popular self checkout vendor) customer's ability to use the meescan app to check out items as it relies on the item info message. Any chance this work could be scheduled Magda Zacharska

Howdy there Ian Hardy - we want to use MeeScan here at Tamu as well. I am assuming this is still a blocking issue?

Also - another question, maybe for Magda Zacharska : Would this SIP2 message allow self-check machines to determine the type of an item ("magnetic media") and not allow them to be self-checked out at stations, but rather refer them to a service desk?

Comment by Brooks Travis [ 24/Feb/22 ]

Ian Hardy I'm scratching my head on this. MO State uses meeScan with FOLIO, and has since Fall of 2020. Are you saying it prevents checkout altogether or just certain functionality?

Comment by Tod Olson [ 24/Feb/22 ]

As I understand it just certain functionality, specifically checking out an item with the app and then desensitizing it at the desensitizing station. Not a problem from kiosks.

Gordon Goldner has provided Chicago with an updated branch of the sip2 code that supports the item info request. I believe the plan is to merge this into the main FOLIO code in R12023 or later, but it should also be available to anyone else who needs it.

I talked with Gordon in August about this dev and he was planning to merge his branch into the main so the entire community could take advantage of this development. Gordon Goldner can you confirm that you still plan to do so. And, as we discussed, if you would like to review with the Volaris team, I can facilitate a meeting time. Thanks!

Steve and Gordon talked and will follow up with next steps after review with Steve.

The reason for a "won't do" resolution is that FOLIO does not need to support the item information request (command 17) but, rather, the response to the command 17. The creation of this issue has already caused some confusion so I'm closing it.
