 Description

This report is a list of OCLC numbers (OCLC system control numbers) from an institution's FOLIO system that is sent to OCLC to "set holdings." Setting holdings is the process of updating the shared OCLC system to indicate that your library owns a resource (a holding).

For Cornell, the process is different and needs to be run daily. Cornell is currently running a scripted process against its production system for OCLC synchronization.

The report should include records without OCLC numbers only. Identify a gap for integration with OCLC Metadata API for sending holdings to OCLC in real time when a new record is added to the collection, meets the criteria set by the institution, and has an OCLC number. LIkewise, a call needs to be sent to delete holdings when a record is deleted with an OCLC number. Or, a report needs to be generated for deletion of holdings after checking that other titles are not held on that same OCLC number.

In review, Chicago could avoid the need for this report as long as we have the means to run our own reports for sending data to OCLC and have the OCLC Metadata API set up to set holdings automatically on records with OCLC numbers. Could someone clarify whether this ability will be available and we will adjust our rankings accordingly?

A report needed monthly seems more appropriate to the LDP?

Please identify an analyst or developer resource to write the SQL report query.

For Cornell, Sharon Beltaine will ask Jenn Colt and lew235 if this feature is needed or not.

WOLFCON 2020: Discuss who needs this feature and the relationship of this to metadata export activities.

WOLFcon2020:

Could also be used for deleting holdings.

OCLC holdings sync is handled differently across institutions. We need examples to determine further refinement for this ticket. Variations in workflow/needs may force another ticket.

Need to determine what elements are used to identify the records of interest (e.g., status, suppression status, etc.). Filter by FOLIO "statistical code"? MM SIG will work on list of statistical code types of interest.

Comment by Charlotte Whitt [ 23/Jan/20 ]

Hi Kevin Walker - re.

Filter by FOLIO "statistical code"

Then I have linked this issue ( REP-252 Draft ) with following UI-Inventory stories

  • UIIN-792 Closed Filter instance records by Statistical code, P2 and OPEN
  • UIIN-793 Closed Filter holdings records by Statistical code, P2 and OPEN
  • UIIN-794 Closed Filter item records by Statistical code, P2 and OPEN

Please note, that Statistical code types are not a static list in Inventory, but a controlled vocabulary maintained in Settings > Inventory > Instance, Holdings, Items > Statistical code types

Comment by Jacquie Samples [ 03/Mar/20 ]

I am interested in the report generated from OCLC when holdings sent via this method cannot be "set" it is the errors that need to be addressed, not the successes.
