Is this frontend or backend work, Marc Johnson?

s this frontend or backend work

I think this is mostly back end work, at least the initial investigation.

I believe you described to me recently that the data export user experience was effectively synchronous, in the sense that the user requests and export and then has to wait in that part of the UI for the export to finish. Is that correct?

You can try it yourself easily. Just go to inventory, apply some filters and then use the actions menu to do an export or save instances UUID. I have only tried saving the UUIDs and what happens is that it takes a while for the file to generate. I didn't get any indicator that anything was happening on the UI (I guess Magda has a ticket for adding something) and I didn't try clicking away from the page. Eventually the file became available to download.

Cate Boerema I know it's taken me a long time to get back to this. Would it still be useful to consider alternatives to how this currently works, or is this less important now we have an intermediary solution in place?

I think it would still be useful. I am guessing it's only a matter of time before we run into this again.

What do you think, Emma Boettcher?

If we do want to move forward, Marc Johnson, what would be the next steps? Would you create an architecture design doc?

That process is being reviewed at the moment. I think I would start by broadly outlining our options here before I dive further into the technical designs.

This should be part of larger conversations related to how reports are run in FOLIO in general.
