 Description

I am able to bulk edit issues in JIRA, but it seems that I can only do that because I am an administrator. Any JIRA user who can edit issues one-by-one should also have bulk edit capabilities. Can you please open that permission up for the relevant groups?

Thanks much!

Cate

Hi Cate Boerema - The ability to bulk edit issues can be a fairly destructive operation so we should probably think this through a bit. Is the permission to bulk edit issues restricted to issues that are assigned to the user performing the bulk operation or does it need to be wider than that. What types of bulk edits are needed? Currently, a user who can edit an issue is restricted to only those issues they are assigned to. Does it include moving issues between projects in bulk? Is it limited to edit comments only? Depending on the requirements, we may want to grant this permission to a smaller subset of folks.

I didn't realize that people were only allowed to edit issues they were assigned to. Are you sure about that?

Anyway, I was really just thinking about giving this permission to the following user groups: external-core-collaborators and staff. I believe this then covers all active contributors from both Index Data (staff) and external organizations (like EBSCO, Stacks, Qulto, Frontside). Personally, I think the risk of exposing this feature to the folks in these groups (POs, UX designers and developers, basically) is pretty low risk. But if you want to create a new group just for people who manage backlogs (POs primarily) and give them all of the permissions they usually get in the external-core-collaborators group PLUS the ability to bulk edit, I am also fine with that.

Thanks!

Cate

No. I'm not sure about that now that I think about it It may be possible that Staff/external-core-collaborators (folks designated as non-Project Managers) have the permissions to edit other users issues. I'll have to check that. If they do, I'm not sure if that's a good thing (aside from the obvious case of adding comments). To me, bulk editing is a project management privilege, therefore, I think the best way to go is to add more folks (POs) to the Project Management groups and then give them that privilege. Is there a list of POs somewhere I can work from?

That's the list, but please do not add Kristin Martin, Kirstin Kemner-Heek or Sharon Belltaine. They are SIG convenors.

Also, please add Harry Kaplanian. And, Jakub, if you haven't already included him.

At this point I'm having to add people to the JIRA Administrators group just so they can get bulk edit capabilities (so far, just Dennis and Khalilah). We probably don't want to have to do that just for this one simple feature. Thanks.

Since we haven't extended this capability to other groups, I am just making people JIRA admins. Closing this.
