 Description

We have been collecting estimates for JIRA items in a spreadsheet and would like to be able to import and store the data in the jira records themselves. To that end, we'd like to add the following custom fields:

  • Analysis estimate - select one from
    • Very Small (VS) < 1day
    • Small < 3 days
    • Medium < 5 days
    • Large < 10 days
    • XL < 15 days
    • XXL < 30 days
  • Analysis estimator - user lookup (ideal) or text
  • Front end estimate - select one from
    • Very Small (VS) < 1day
    • Small < 3 days
    • Medium < 5 days
    • Large < 10 days
    • XL < 15 days
    • XXL < 30 days
  • Front end estimator - user lookup (ideal) or text
  • Back end estimate - select one from
    • Very Small (VS) < 1day
    • Small < 3 days
    • Medium < 5 days
    • Large < 10 days
    • XL < 15 days
    • XXL < 30 days
  • Back end estimator - user lookup (ideal) or text
  • Confidence factor - select one from
    • High
    • Medium
    • Low
  • Estimation notes and assumptions - Large text box for notes

Hi John Malconian. Jakub Skoczen said we should go ahead and enter a request for this. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Hi John Malconian, I just wanted to follow up on this. Do you have an ETA for this? I really have no idea how complex this may or may not be...

Hi Cate Boerema I'll have a chance to work on this Wednesday and hopefully wrap it up by the end of week.

Thanks John Malconian!

Sorry Cate Boerema did not make much progress on this issue this week. Will tackle it Monday.

Cate Boerema I was able to create these new fields easily enough and have enabled them on the default (non-bug) screen for all projects. Some additional questions:

  • Should all fields apply to all projects? Currently, all projects share the same screen configuration.
  • Should the new fields be applied to "bug" as well as "tasks"?
  • How do you want the fields to be displayed? Currently, if the field is not used when creating a new task it will not be displayed on the issue screen after the issue has been created although it can be added.

There's a project called 'Test' that you can use to test the new fields.

Thanks, John! Yes, all fields can apply to all projects. And, they should apply to all issue types as well (including bugs).

I think it's nice for unused fields to display in view mode for the issue, if possible. If not, no big deal.

Cate Boerema Ok all fields are applied to all projects as well as all issue types. It's currently not possible in Jira to display unused custom fields in the default issue view. In order to display them, we would have to assign a default value for each field similar to what we did with the 'Tester Assignee' field. I'm going to mark this issue as completed. Feel free to reopen if there are any further modifications you want to make or change your mind about adding default values to these fields.

Thanks so much, John Malconian. I'll check out the new fields today.

In the meantime, would it be possible to remove me from the default Tester Assignee? We've decided that it's not really helpful after all. We can just leave it unassigned by default.

Thanks!
