Purpose:
Source records (e.g.: MARC bibs in SRS) may have fields with UUIDs/URIs pointing to internally stored authorities/entities that have been cached OR may point to external data that has not been cached in FOLIO. Need to have flexibility in the way that we treat links to authorities/entities.
Use cases:
Establish relationships between authority entities and bibliographic / work entities based on external identifiers (preferred) or local identifiers (when external identifiers are not available).
Allow for defined property names / labels within a bibliographic record (SRS MARC / SRS BIBFRAME instance / native folio instance / potentially FOLIO holdings and items / local works) to be updated automatically when the source authority data is updated.
Allow for automatic reports that are generated when scenarios not defined for automatic update require a change or review before update.
Notes from the Entity Management Working Group:
This feature is addressing the desire that the entities from Entities Management app will surface somewhere (this gives the example of MARC bibs in SRS). With the thought of various SRS's in the future for different schema, do we need to state somewhere that we want entitles to link to Inventory also and back.
